HIFK announces new contract news on Wednesday during the home game against Ässät.
The club added a video to social media on Tuesday, stating that the player signing is a “player resembling IFK” coming from a hockey family. Fans quickly connected the hints to the team’s golden helmet this season, Daniel Mäkiaho.
Mäkiaho, 24, has a father, Toni Mäkiaho, who is a long-time IFK forward, and the late legendary club boss Frank Moberg is the forward’s grandfather.
Mäkiaho has broken his single-season points record in the Liiga this season. The forward has scored 19 points with 7 goals and 12 assists in 27 games.
