Ilta-Sanomat and Iltalehti reported earlier on Wednesday that HIFK is close to an agreement with Swedish goalkeeper Hugo Alnefelt.
Alnefelt’s transfer to HIFK is now confirmed by the Ice Hockey Federation’s player registry. HIFK has not yet announced Alnefelt’s contract.
Alnefelt, 24, played 28 games last season in the SHL with HV71, achieving a save percentage of 90.0. He spent the 2021-24 seasons in North America within the Tampa Bay Lightning organization, where he primarily played AHL games. In the 2021-22 season, he got to play one game in the NHL.
From HIFK’s goaltending department, Paavo Kohonen and Niko Hovinen are injured. The team’s goaltending roster also includes Rastislav Elias.
