HIFK: big contract news
HIFK announced an important contract extension on Wednesday.
The team’s golden helmet Daniel Mäkiaho will continue with the club next season as well. The 24-year-old HIFK forward’s contract is for one year.
– It has been a pleasure to follow Daniel’s development over the years. This season he has taken big steps, especially in his overall play, head coach Olli Jokinen says in the club’s announcement.
– Daniel is at a good age for a hockey player, who works every day to move forward and help his team. Of course, it is great that he wants to continue developing in the city, Jokinen, who coached Mäkiaho at Jukurit from 2022 to 2024, adds.
Mäkiaho, 24, is the son of the iconic former HIFK forward Toni Mäkiaho. The late legendary HIFK club manager Frank Moberg is the forward’s grandfather.
Mäkiaho has broken his single-season points record in the Liiga this season. The forward has scored 20 points (8+12) in 28 games.
