Kärpät has announced its captaincy for the upcoming Liiga season 2026-27. The new captain of the Oulu club is Eemil Erholtz, who takes over from club icon Atte Ohtamaa.

Erholtz, 26, is a product of Kärpät’s youth system and has completed his first Liiga season with the club. Serving as Kärpät’s alternate captain last season, Erholtz recorded 50 points in 58 games with 17 goals and 33 assists. In the spring, Erholtz was also part of the team that won the World Championship with the Lions.

The alternate captains for Kärpät have been chosen as defenseman Tuomas Salmela and forward Eetu Koivistoinen. Salmela will begin his second season with Kärpät, while Koivistoinen is set to embark on his first season with the club.
