Here is SaiPa’s goalie selection for the playoff opener!
SaiPa opens its playoff season on Saturday when it faces Ässät in the first quarterfinal. The team’s goalie will be Tomi Karhunen from three options.
In the first quarterfinal, Kari Piiroinen will serve as SaiPa’s backup goalie. Thus, the Latvian Gustavs Grigals will be left out of the lineup from the Lappeenranta goalkeeping trio.
The experienced Karhunen, 36, joined SaiPa at the beginning of January when Piiroinen got injured. He played 12 regular season games, winning nine of them. Karhunen’s save percentage was 89.3.
Piiroinen played 24 regular season games with a save percentage of 90.5. He has only been seen in goal for SaiPa in two games since his injury.
Grigals has played the most among SaiPa goalies this season. He recorded a save percentage of 89.2 in 26 games.
