Harsh decision: Harri Pesonen was shown the door – return to the League?
SCL Tigers’ Finnish captain Harri Pesonen, 37, will not continue with the club next season.
Pesonen has played a total of 11 seasons in Switzerland, seven of which were in Langnau. He recorded 131 goals and 134 assists in 364 games. He served as the Tigers’ captain for the last four seasons.
– By participating in the Spengler Cup in 2026, we will start next season with seven foreign players, and the additional spot will be filled specifically by a center forward. Unfortunately, this decision meant that we could not offer Harri a new contract, says SCL Tigers’ sports director Pascal Müller in the club’s statement.
Pesonen was disappointed by the club’s decision but intends to focus on the goals for the remainder of the season.
– This is a huge disappointment for me and my family. I have enjoyed my time in Langnau both on and off the ice. It was an honor to serve as captain, which makes this time even more special. I am very grateful to the club and the fans. Until the end of the season, I will fully focus on the team’s goals: to place in the top eight and play in the playoffs in Langnau.
Pesonen’s next step is not yet known, but a return to Finland’s Liiga is possible: he last played in his home country for JYP during the 2011–12 season.
