In the past season, Aleksi Saarela, who had to return from Switzerland to Finland due to military obligations, surprisingly ended up in Turku and TPS instead of Lukko with a one-year contract.

The ice hockey personality Elmo Aittola does not fondly remember Saarela’s time at TPS as he moves to Lukko next season. The coaching staff of the Turku team also receives part of Aittola’s criticism.

– TPS was marked by a lack of standards. I have rarely seen such an undisciplined team at any level of competition. Of course, it was highlighted by the blunders of savinaiset and lauridsen, Aittola begins his critique on Urheilucast.

– The team was very poorly constructed for this season. It was then supported by Tarmo Reunanen and Aleksi Saarela. Saarela then skated through that year overweight, as his background support had messed things up so badly that he had to return to the Liiga, Aittola states bluntly.

– He scored 20 goals and managed to get himself to Rauma in good time. And he will probably not be overweight next season.

The criticism directed at Aittola’s young world champion forward did not stop there.

– Saarela has never really known how to play, but he knows how to score goals. Every time TPS and Lukko play against each other, TPS fans are annoyed that Saarela is actually serious.

– Especially towards the end of winter when I watched Teps’ games, I don’t believe Saarela even broke a sweat there, Aittola concludes his tirade.

Saarela played 53 regular season games in a TPS jersey and recorded 20+15=35 points. The Turku team’s season ultimately ended in a narrow elimination from the playoffs.
