Finnish forward received an award for a strong season: NHL contract!
The Columbus Blue Jackets have rewarded Mikael Pyyhtiä for his strong AHL season with a new NHL contract. Pyyhtiä signed a new two-year deal with the NHL team on Thursday.
The average annual salary of the contract is $850,000 per season. The second year is one-way, meaning that the TPS product will earn the same salary regardless of whether he plays in the NHL or AHL.
Pyyhtiä appeared in five NHL games for the Blue Jackets last season, scoring one goal. Most of the season was spent with the AHL’s Cleveland Monsters, where the forward was one of his team’s most effective players, tallying 21 goals and 28 assists for 49 points in 59 games.
The Columbus 2020 fourth-round draft pick has played 71 games in the NHL so far, with a total of 5 goals and 6 assists for 11 points. In the AHL, Pyyhtiä has recorded 96 points with 32 goals and 62 assists in 154 games.
