Familiar giant flop from Kärpät to Romania
The Canadian forward Nick Ritchie, known from Oulun Kärpät, has found a new team for himself.
The forward, who has played a total of 519 games in the NHL and scored nearly 200 points, is moving to the Romanian SC Csíkszereda.
The team plays in the Erste Liga, which features teams from Hungary and Romania.
Ritchie arrived in the SM-liiga and Kärpät with high expectations for the 2023–24 season, but in ten games he only recorded 1+4 points. He is best remembered for the incident involving TPS’s Markus Nurmi, which resulted in Ritchie receiving an eight-game suspension. After that, he did not play in the SM-liiga.
Last season, known for being a hothead, Ritchie spent time in the top league of Slovakia, where he represented two different teams. He accumulated 120 penalty minutes in 30 games. The forward, who played for Nové Zámky and Slovan Bratislava, totaled 13+19=32 points.
The news was first reported in Finland by Ilta-Sanomat.
