Familiar from the league, Miikka Pitkänen: new team
Finnish forward Miikka Pitkänen has found a new team for the next season. He is moving to the UK top league EIHL to join the Nottingham Panthers on a one-year contract.
Pitkänen, 30, played just over two seasons in Sweden’s Allsvenskan. He first represented Södertälje SK, while last season he played for Nybro Vikings IF. Last season, Pitkänen recorded 15 points (5+10) in 29 games with Nybro.
Pitkänen is a familiar name in the Liiga, where he has represented KalPa, KooKoo, and Jukurit, playing a total of 392 regular season games (72+114=186) and 21 playoff games (2+3). The 2018-19 season was Pitkänen’s most productive, as he scored an impressive 48 points while wearing KooKoo’s jersey.
– Miikka is a very experienced addition for us. He has played in the Liiga for several years and has really good statistics from there. He is very skilled, smart, and has a high work ethic. He can both create opportunities and shoot himself, Nottingham Panthers head coach Danny Stewart says in the club’s statement.
In addition to Pitkänen, the team will also feature Finnish defender Jaakko Niskala in the upcoming season.
