Familiar Finnish goalie from Kärpät joins a new team!
Finnish goalie Niclas Westerholm, 28, continues his career in Sweden.
The HockeyAllsvenskan club Södertälje SK announces that they have signed a contract with Westerholm extending to January 9.
Westerholm played during the autumn season on short-term contracts in the Czech Republic, appearing in three games for BK Mladá Boleslav and eight games for HC Motor České Budějovice.
In the previous two seasons, Westerholm was seen with Oulun Kärpät. Last spring, Westerholm became the third goalie for Kärpät, and his Liiga contract was not renewed.
Westerholm arrives in Södertälje to replace young Love Härenstam, who is traveling with the Swedish national team to the under-20 World Championships.
– With Niclas, we get an experienced goalie who has several Liiga seasons and experience from Finnish national team games. Most recently, Niclas played in the Czech top league. Niclas utilizes his size and athletic attributes in goal through a reliable yet explosive style of goaltending, says goalie coach Calle Brattenberger in the club’s announcement.
