ESS: Bad news for the league team from Nashville Predators
Pelicans defender Daniel Nieminen, 20, is unlikely to be seen in the Liiga next season. The news was reported by Etelä-Suomen Sanomat.
Nieminen will be playing at the Nashville Predators’ training camp in the fall. Even if an NHL spot does not open up, Nashville wants their young defender to play in North America regardless of the league level, so a loan agreement to Pelicans is not forthcoming.
Last season, Nieminen played 47 Liiga games for Pelicans. In those games, the defender recorded strong stats of 5+12=17.
Nashville’s decision is unlikely to come as a surprise to Pelicans. The Lahti team’s defense includes, among others, Michal Jordan, Hampus Falk, Johannes Johannesen, Mikko Kousa, Carl-Johan Lerby, and Markus Nutivaara.
Nieminen is Nashville’s 6th round draft pick from the summer of 2025.
