The SHL’s Wednesday quarter-final match between Frölunda and Luleå escalated into quite a brawl.

The harshest punishment was given to Luleå’s Finnish forward Markus Nurmi, who arrived from outside the situation to defend his teammate Linus Omark. Nurmi pulled the home team’s Noah Hasan away from Omark.

The incident was preceded by a dirty trick from Frölunda’s Tom Nilsson. Nilsson hit Luleå’s Pontus Andreasson in the face with a cross-check, and the brawl was on.

Nurmi received a game misconduct penalty, as the Finnish forward had skated in from the other side of the rink just before reaching the bench. The other parties involved managed to escape with two-minute penalties.

The heated emotions from the match spilled over even after the game ended. Eetu Koivistoiselle was given a 10-minute misconduct penalty for unsportsmanlike behavior after the final buzzer.

Frölunda, which finished second in the regular season, ultimately won the match with a crushing score of 7-0, leveling the series at 1-1.
