Doug Shedden leaves Sport – here is the team’s next head coach!
Vaasan Sport announces that head coach Doug Shedden‘s contract has been terminated. The termination of the contract occurred at Shedden’s initiative.
Sport’s head coach for the remainder of the season will be Jussi Tapio, who has served as the team’s assistant coach during the first part of the season.
– I want to thank Vaasan Sport for the opportunity to return to Finland! My time here has been great and the club has treated me well. Unfortunately, we were unable to change the team’s course during my time. My journey continues elsewhere and I wish Sport all the best for the future, Shedden commented in Sport’s statement.
Tapio, 39, has a head coaching contract that is valid for the remainder of the season and he will continue in Sport’s coaching team next season according to his original coaching contract.
– Jussi Tapio will take over the team immediately. After Shedden announced his desire to terminate the contract, naming Tapio for the position was a very natural decision, as Jussi has served the club for a long time and knows the organization. He will be an important part of next season’s coaching team as well, explains Sport’s sports director Ari-Pekka Pajuluoma.
Sport started the season under the leadership of Juuso Hahl. He was replaced on October 14 by Shedden, who ultimately held the position for just under two months.
Sport is currently at the bottom of the league. They have collected 24 points from 26 matches.
