The Dallas Stars have signed a contract extension with their captain Jamie Benn, 35.

According to NHL insider Frank Seravalli, the parties agreed to a one-year contract extension on Thursday. Dreger reports that the contract is heavily bonus-laden, including a base salary of one million dollars.

Benn has represented the Stars throughout his 16-year NHL career. Last season, the tough captain played 80 regular-season games, recording 16+33=49 points. In the playoffs, the veteran forward scored 1+2=3 points in 18 games.

During his career, Benn has played 1192 regular-season games with 399 goals and 557 assists for a total of 956 points, as well as 112 playoff games with 28 goals and 52 assists for a total of 80 points. The Canadian earned 9.5 million dollars per season from his previous eight-year mega-deal.

Sounds like Jamie Benn's new deal with #TexasHockey will come in at 1 year x $1 million base salary, but with the potential to earn more in over-35 performance bonuses.
