NHL reporter Pierre LeBrun reports that the Carolina Hurricanes negotiated with the Florida Panthers at the trade deadline for a trade. Carolina was targeting Florida’s star goalie Sergei Bobrovsky.

According to LeBrun, Florida wanted a first-round draft pick in return. However, Carolina was not willing to give that up, so the trade ultimately fell through.

Bobrovsky, 37, led Florida to two consecutive Stanley Cup victories in 2024 and 2025. His ten million dollar annual salary contract ended last season.

Carolina ultimately continued its season with the goalie duo Frederik AndersenBrandon Bussi. The team has advanced to the Stanley Cup finals against the Vegas Golden Knights under Andersen’s leadership, but Bussi took over the goaltending duties mid-series. The finals series is tied 2-2 and continues in the early hours of Friday, Finnish time.
