Breaking news! Finnish prospect called up to the NHL – debut ahead
The New Jersey Devils have called up Finnish defenseman Topias Vilen from the farm team to the NHL for the first time.
The Devils, who have lost their playoff chances, have only three games left in the season. Head coach Sheldon Keefe stated that Vilen will make his NHL debut on Sunday against the Ottawa Senators and will also play on Tuesday against the Boston Bruins.
Vilen, 23, is the Devils’ 5th round pick (#129) from 2021. He is in his third season in North America, where he has accumulated 171 AHL games (7+70=77) and six games in the ECHL (3+7=10).
This season, Vilen has recorded 59 games with the farm team Utica Comets, totaling 4+20=24 points.
Vilen’s NHL entry-level contract expires at the end of this season.
Before moving across the pond, Vilen played in the Liiga for Pelicans.
They will join the club for today’s practice.
