Big bomb! Doug Shedden appointed head coach of the league club

Vaasan Sport announces that it has hired the legendary Doug Shedden as the new head coach of the club. The current head coach of the Vaasa team, Juuso Hahl, has also been relieved of his duties.

Sport’s season has not started as hoped. The Vaasa club is currently in 13th place in the league standings.

– We wanted to respond to the situation decisively. Alongside the development of all our other activities, our sporting goals are high, and Doug is one of the most respected coaches in Europe. We are very pleased to have him in Vaasa. The internationally accomplished coach will bring his own flavor to the daily life of the entire organization, says Vaasan Sport’s CEO Jonne Kemppainen in a statement.

– His experience, coaching philosophy, and passion for the game fit perfectly with what we need right now. We strongly believe that under Doug’s leadership, we will bring out the best in the team and move towards our goals, Kemppainen continues.

Shedden is already a familiar figure to Finns from the Lions, Jokerit, and HIFK. In the previous two seasons, the coaching veteran has coached the German team Iserlohn Roosters. He also has experience from Switzerland, Slovakia, and the Canadian national team.

I have always loved my time in Finland with the national team, Jokerit, and HIFK, and I look forward to a great collaboration with Vaasan Sport, the fans, partners, and the entire city. Our goal is clear: we will raise Sport to fight for the playoffs and present ourselves as a fighting team that makes the fans proud every night, Shedden says.

According to Sport, Shedden’s contract covers the rest of the season. The coaching legend will start his role once the work permit and practical matters are arranged.
