Big blow for Finland – star player out of the World Championship
In the opening match of the World Championships, Teuvo Teräväinen, who suffered an injury, will have to leave the tournament.
The Lions announced the news on their official website today, Saturday.
Teräväinen recorded two assists in the Lions’ victorious match against Germany, but received a heavy hit from Moritz Seider, who plays for the Detroit Red Wings at the club level, in the second period.
The tackle led to the injury.
Teräväinen had 14 goals and 21 assists in 75 regular season games with his club team, the Chicago Blackhawks, this season.
In the 2025 World Championships, the winger amassed 11 points in seven games.
Replacing Teräväinen in the Lions’ roster is Eemil Erholtz, who scored 50 points in the previous season with Kärpät. Erholtz was part of the Lions in three EHT tournament matches before the Swiss championships.
Finland will face Hungary in their second match of the World Championships today. The match starts at 17:20.
