Artemi Panarin leaves the NY Rangers – “It’s hard to say how I feel”
New York Rangers star forward Artemi Panarin will leave his current team by next summer at the latest.
This was revealed over the weekend when the Rangers announced that they would not offer a contract extension to the 34-year-old winger representing the team for his seventh season after the current one.
Panarin himself received the team’s decision with surprise.
– It’s hard to say how I feel. I’m still confused, but the GM decided to go in different directions and that’s okay with me. Right now, I am a Rangers player and I will still give 100 percent in every game, Panarin commented to The Athletic.
The forward does not intend to comment further on the events behind the decision.
– In fact, I have now said everything I need to say about it. Let’s talk about the game itself from now on, Panarin states.
Panarin’s $11.6 million contract includes a full no-trade clause. The Rangers are now trying to get him to waive the clause so they could trade the veteran winger to a championship-contending team before the current season ends.
With 18 goals and 36 assists for a total of 54 points in 48 games, Panarin is the Rangers’ leading scorer this season.
