HIFK’s head coach Olli Jokinen has come under fierce criticism. Hockey analyst Petteri Sihvonen believes that Jokinen does not have the capability to get the Helsinki club’s game in order.

Sihvonen makes a straightforward demand for Jokinen’s dismissal in his writing for Aition. He also has a ready candidate for HIFK’s next head coach.

According to Sihvonen, the core of HIFK’s problems is the lack of a functioning playing style. He compares the Helsinki team to struggling KooKoo and Jokerit, whose play, in his opinion, at least has a clear structure.

– Jokinen does not know how to coach the game, that has become painfully clear.

Sihvonen assesses that the playing style Jokinen used in Jukurit is not suitable for HIFK’s current roster. Since the home game against KalPa, the team’s play has, according to him, been based on very simple solutions.

– Since the KalPa home game, Jokinen has had his clumsy wooden puppets playing nearly the simplest possible wire hockey from their own positions.

Sihvonen’s criticism is not limited to just the head coach. He also questions HIFK’s status as a sportingly ambitious club.

– Because it is HIFK. A popular Helsinki entertainment product without the burdens of top-level sports.

The club’s sports director Janne Laukkanen also receives his share of the criticism. Sihvonen expects Laukkanen to intervene in the coaching situation but doubts his courage to make the necessary decision.

– One would think that the new sports director Laukkanen would blow the whistle on such a worthless spectacle. Of course, it may be that Laukkanen is too timid for that.

In Sihvonen’s opinion, HIFK should not have to look far for a new head coach. He raises one of Finland’s hockey legends as Jokinen’s successor.

– The solution to the problems is so close within the club that it hasn’t even been seen as possible, let alone forthcoming. To put it plainly: Olli Jokinen out and Raimo Summanen in.
