The Montreal Canadiens advance to the second round of the playoffs in the NHL. They defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning 2-1 in the seventh game of the first round on the road, winning the series 4-3.

Canadiens opened the scoring in the first period through Nick Suzuki. In the second period, Tampa equalized with Dominic James scoring a goal.

The decisive goal of the match and the entire series was scored in the final period by Alex Newhook.

For Tampa, the departure for summer vacation came in a harsh manner. They outshot in the seventh game 29-9, but still had to give in. In the second period, Canadiens did not get a single shot on goal.

One Finnish player was seen in the series. Canadiens’ Oliver Kapanen played the first four games of the series but was then left out of the lineup for the last three games.

Canadiens will face the Buffalo Sabres in the second round of the playoffs.
