A suspension hit the league: “Carelessly endangered the opponent”
The league’s disciplinary delegation has imposed a one-match suspension on Ässät forward Peter Tiivola.
Tiivola checked Kärpät’s Kasper Soini in Wednesday’s match. He did not receive a penalty for the incident.
– The disciplinary delegation states that Tiivola’s arm separates from his body during the check, and the arm makes contact with Soini’s head from behind. There is no actual body contact between the players before Tiivola’s check goes in front of Soini.
– The disciplinary delegation believes that the check, which was directed at the head and executed with an arm that was detached from the body, recklessly endangered the opponent, and therefore Tiivola should be suspended. Regarding the duration of the suspension, the disciplinary delegation considers that despite the reprehensibility of the check, Soini’s attempt to slow down also affects the situation, as stated in the decision.
Tiivola will miss Ässät’s match on Friday when the team faces Tappara in Tampere. Tiivola has recorded 4+13=17 points in 36 games this season.
