The financial difficulties of Lahti Pelicans lead to staff reductions. The league club reports in its statement about organizational changes in the Pelicans group, resulting in the termination of six employees.

The change negotiations of Lahti Pelicans Ltd. ended on October 5. The club plans to eliminate overlapping tasks and reorganize responsibilities and resources.

The background of the changes is a heavy loss year. The Pelicans’ financial result for the period from May 1, 2025, to April 30, 2026, was a deficit of €761,341, even though it includes €210,000 in received group assistance. The revenue amounted to €7.1 million, and the operating loss was €698,770.

According to the club, significant changes are needed to correct the finances. Simply acquiring additional income is not enough; costs and operational methods must also be reformed.

– Our task is to identify what is not working and fix it. We cannot settle for explanations or wait for the situation to resolve itself, states Pelicans’ CEO Juuso Pulliainen.

Procurement and outsourcing services will also be reviewed. At the same time, Pelicans aims for better profitability from ticket sales, match events, and restaurant operations.

Alongside balancing the finances, the club strives to maintain its competitive edge in sports. After ten played matches, Pelicans is in 12th place in the league. The next match is on Friday, October 16, at home against Vaasan Sport.
