27-year-old NHL forward pulls a fast one on Swedish club – unexpectedly retires
Canadian forward Noah Philp, who played in the NHL for the last two seasons, has decided to end his playing career at the age of 27.
Philp’s decision to retire came as a surprise, as he had signed a contract with the SHL team HV71 over the summer. Philp was set to play in Sweden next season, but the agreement between the parties has now been terminated as Philp decided to hang up his skates.
– I sincerely apologize to HV71 and everyone involved for the timing of my decision. I have decided to stop playing hockey. My motivation for hockey is no longer what it should be, and I would rather be completely honest than continue playing without full commitment. I believe this is the best solution for everyone, Philp says in HV71’s statement.
Last season, Philp played 15 NHL games with the Edmonton Oilers, scoring 2+1 points, and two games with the Carolina Hurricanes without any points. Additionally, he played 29 regular season games with AHL team Chicago Wolves, scoring 8+9=17 points, and 21 playoff games with 6+8=14 points.
The season before, Philp played 15 games in Edmonton with 0+2 points, bringing his total NHL games to 32. In the AHL, Philp played a total of 159 games.
