TPS made two player signings – top goalkeeper continues!
TPS announced two contract news on Thursday during the season 2025-26 mid-review held on the club’s YouTube channel.
The Turku club has signed extensions with goalkeeper Eetu Mäkiniemi and defender Ruben Rafkin. Mäkiniemi’s contract covers next season, while Rafkin’s contract is for two years.
Mäkiniemi, 26, joined TPS this season after playing the last four seasons in North America, where he played two NHL games with the San Jose Sharks. Mäkiniemi has played 22 games for TPS this season with a save percentage of 90.3.
– Every night he gives us a chance to win. It’s really great that he wanted to stay with TPS. We were already confident early on that we trust him and know what he can give us next season, which is an important season for us. I believe there would have been interest elsewhere, but the fact that he wanted to continue here says a lot. This is really important and big news for us, says TPS’s sports director Mika Suoraniemi in a statement.
Rafkin, 24, is a product of TPS. He returned to the club this season after playing last season with Tappara and Örebro. Rafkin has recorded 1+11 points in 41 games this season.
– Ruben has taken clear steps on the mental side. He has the desire to develop and move forward in his career. He believes he can succeed here, and it was easy to see on both sides that the journey continues together. Additionally, Ruben represents local identity and Turku-ness in our team, which is also important, Suoraniemi states in a statement.
