Tough decision: Tero Lehterä’s fate has been revealed!
Tero Lehterä will continue as the head coach of the Finnish women’s national ice hockey team next season as well. The Ice Hockey Association announced that it has exercised the option year in his contract.
53-year-old Lehterä started in the role in the spring of 2025 with an initial 1+1 year contract.
– I continue my work with a positive mindset. The goal is to develop the daily routine, raise the standards, and create an environment where competition, professionalism, and support go hand in hand, Lehterä said in the announcement.
The Women’s Lions’ Olympic tournament in Milan–Cortina was disappointing: out of five matches, there was only one victory, and the tournament ended with a quarter-final loss to Switzerland. Despite this, the association was satisfied with the overall picture of the coaching and the team’s development.
The national team will gather again in May in Vierumäki. Next season’s schedule includes a European tour starting in August and the World Championships in November in Denmark.
