The fresh head coach of TPS, Toni Söderholm, is heading into the new Liiga season full of enthusiasm.

The first impression of the renewed TPS team’s working atmosphere has made an impact on the 47-year-old who coached in the DEL league last season.

– This has been a great start. A truly inspiring work community for me. This has been an amazing time for me, Söderholm said at the live event organized by TPS on Monday.

Söderholm has a clear vision of the type of hockey TPS will present in the upcoming Liiga season.

– Probably quite a few coaches say they want their team to play fast and aggressive hockey. I probably don’t differ from that. It’s probably the only style of play I have coached.

– Of course, it requires that the players are always ready to react and are always in work mode. That creates quick collaborative hockey, where you dare to do things without overthinking, knowing that someone on the ice will always come to help, Söderholm summarizes.

The head coach follows up with an example of what implementing the style of play on the ice practically means.

– I want the team on the ice to look like a well-organized school of fish gliding around the rink. We want the game to be straightforward, but in a bold way that encourages you to try and bend the team’s rules so that you can offer great experiences to the spectators, Söderholm promises to the fans.

TPS will open its Liiga season on September 9 with an away game against HPK.
