The league’s long-time superstar is changing scenery!
Canadian star Reid Gardiner’s contract with SHL team Växjö Lakers ends this season, and the familiar scorer from the Liiga is heading to the free market.
According to Swedish newspaper Expressen Gardiner’s continuation with the team is still possible, but nothing is certain. The paper also states that it wouldn’t be surprising if he moved to another SHL team.
Gardiner recorded 15 goals and 15 assists for a total of 30 points in 49 games this season.
In Finland, Gardiner played for Kärpät last season, where he scored impressive points of 27+28=55 in 60 games. Before that, he represented JYP for three seasons, and in his first Liiga season, he also played for HIFK.
Overall, Gardiner played 228 regular season games in the Liiga with stats of 101+77=178 and seven playoff games (2+4=6). He scored over 20 goals in each of his Liiga seasons and won the goal scoring title in the 2022–23 season with 27 goals.
