The league’s foreign reinforcement hung up the skates – a new job was quickly resolved
Forward John Stevens, 32, who played for Kiekko-Espoo in the league last season, has decided to end his playing career.
Stevens, who holds passports from the United States and Canada, has quickly found a new job. AHL team Hartford Wolf Pack reports on their website that they have appointed Stevens as their new assistant coach.
Stevens’ last season as a player was a year in Europe and Finland. Last season, he played 48 regular season games for Kiekko-Espoo, recording 10+13=23 points. In the playoffs, Stevens recorded 0+1 points in five games.
For most of his career, Stevens played primarily in the AHL, where he represented the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, Utica Comets, and Abbotsford Canucks. He played a total of 389 games in the league, recording 65+98=163 points. He won the AHL championship in Abbotsford in 2025.
