The league club strengthened its ranks – caught a forward from North America
Kiekko-Espoo has made a new forward signing from North America. John Stevens is moving to Espoo with a contract covering the next season.
Stevens, 31, holds both U.S. and Canadian passports. He has not played in Europe during his career. For the last four seasons, Stevens represented the AHL team Abbotsford Canucks, with whom he won the farm league championship last season. Stevens played 45 games last season, recording 4+11=15 points.
Stevens has played a total of 389 games in the AHL, with 65+98=163 points. In his best season, he finished with 19+24=43 points in 68 games. Stevens has not played in the NHL.
– I strive to be a good two-way player who plays well in all three areas of the ice. I am also a good team player and perform my role to the best of my ability, whatever that role may be, Stevens commented in Kiekko-Espoo’s press release.
Stevens’ father is NHL coach John Stevens, who has worked as an assistant coach for the Vegas Golden Knights for the past three seasons. Father Stevens has served as head and assistant coach for the Philadelphia Flyers and Los Angeles Kings, as well as an assistant coach for the Dallas Stars. As an assistant coach, Stevens has won three Stanley Cups, the most recent being in Vegas in 2023.
