Tappara is the Finnish champion!
Tappara is the men’s ice hockey champion of Finland for the year 2026.
Tappara defeated KooKoo in the decisive seventh final with a score of 2-1. In the history of the league, the championship has only been decided in a seventh game three times before.
Nokia Arena was sold out, and the audience propelled the home team to a fierce opening period. The first goal was scored by Ondrej Pavel just under four minutes into the game.
At the end of the period, Joachim Blichfeld thanked Benjamin Rautiaisen for the assist. KooKoo’s defense was nowhere to be seen, and Blichfeld managed to score in his fourth consecutive match.
The entire opening period was strongly under Tappara’s control. In the first 15 minutes, KooKoo did not manage to shoot once on Christian Heljangon‘s goal.
Slowly, KooKoo got into the game, and in the second period, the team managed to score a goal to narrow the gap. Tappara took two penalties in a row, and eventually, Miska Siikonen shoveled the puck in from in front of the goal.
KooKoo tried to level the game, but Tappara held on and celebrated the league victory after a year’s break. This championship is Tappara’s 21st in the club’s history.
