Switzerland is left behind – the trusted center returns to the League
The Sport team, preparing for the Liiga season, confirmed its offense on Sunday with a familiar name, announcing that they have signed a two-year contract with Swedish center Johan Sundström.
Sundström, 33, returns to Vaasa after a brief visit to Switzerland. The experienced center moved from Sport to Zürich Lions at the end of last season but is now making a return to the familiar locker room, where he also served as an alternate captain in the previous two seasons.
Sundström has played 141 Liiga games for Sport, scoring 36+46=82 points.
– Johan has been a very reliable center for us for several years. He can play effectively both on the power play and penalty kill, is strong in front of the net, and is an excellent center who starts from the right side. He brings a lot of experience and confidence to the team, head coach Lauri Mikkola explained in the club’s announcement.
Last season, Sundström represented Sport in 32 games with stats of 11+8=19.
