Source: Rikard Grönborg strongly in the running for a new head coach position
The Swedish head coach of Tappara Rikard Grönborg, 57, is a candidate for a new head coaching position in Sweden.
The reigning champion of the SHL, Luleå HF announced on Monday that the team’s head coach Thomas Berglund will start his final season as the team’s head coach for now. This upcoming season will be Berglund’s ninth at the helm of Luleå.
Thus, the head coach position at Luleå is open for the 2026-27 season. Hockeynews.se reported later on Monday that Luleå’s top candidate to replace Berglund is Grönborg.
Grönborg has coached Tappara for two seasons, and his contract with the club covers the upcoming season. In his first season, Grönborg led Tappara to the Finnish championship, while last season the team was eliminated in the quarter-finals.
Throughout his coaching career, Grönborg has won two world championships as the head coach of Sweden. Before moving to Tappara, he coached the Swiss team ZSC Lions.
