Niko Huuhtanen went through tough times – his teammate’s stick left a harsh mark: “Stitches in the corner of the eye”
In the Wednesday night match between HIFK and TPS, Daniel Mäkiaho‘s stick hit his line mate Niko Huuhtanen in the face.
Huuhtanen left for the locker room after the hit and did not return during the match.
– He got stitches in the corner of his eye and maybe a bit on the eye, but I haven’t seen him yet, Mäkiaho commented on Huuhtanen’s situation after the match to SuomiKiekko.
Mäkiaho’s stick also caused damage in the offensive zone. He finished with stats of 2+1, which also put the forward at the top of the league’s scoring list. The forward is now on an eight-game point streak, during which he has tallied 15 (8+7) points.
– It’s pretty cool, for the first time ever (leading the league’s scoring list), Mäkiaho admitted after the match.
TPS eventually defeated HIFK after a penalty shootout in Nordik’s 60th anniversary match with a score of 4–3.
– We should have been able to defend tighter and break their long attacks. Especially the second period was difficult for us, Mäkiaho listed the reasons for the loss.
Both teams continue their Liiga season over the weekend. TPS will face Kiekko-Espoo at home on Friday. HIFK will travel to Lappeenranta on Saturday, where they will face SaiPa.
