In the Lions this season, Peetro Seppälä, 25, who has played nine games, will return to the Liiga next season. Lukko announced on Thursday that they have signed the 187-centimeter defender to a two-year contract, with the second year including an option to move abroad.

According to Lukko’s sports director Kalle Sahlstedt, Lukko is getting a very high-quality defender in Seppälä.

– A well-sized defender who handles the puck excellently under pressure and solves situations by passing – I think that is a very important quality in today’s Liiga, Lukko’s sports director praises in the announcement.

– An extremely high-quality defender, I see him as a player at the EHT level. He plays well at both ends and is an all-around defenseman; strengths can be found both in the offensive and defensive zones. The season will show whether he plays more on the power play or penalty kill, Sahlstedt describes.

Seppälä made his Liiga debut with KooKoo in 2017 and played in Kouvola until the spring of 2022. In his last season in the Liiga, he scored 29 points in 57 games.

After his years in Kouvola, he headed to North America and played two seasons with the AHL team Coachella Valley Firebirds. In the last two seasons, the 25-year-old Seppälä has played in the SHL with Örebro HK.

The defender scored 10 points (1+9) in 51 games during the past SHL season.
