Oulu Kärpät announces that they have made a contract for the remainder of the season with Julius Hermonen.

The 28-year-old Kärpät product played 14 Liiga games in the early season wearing Ilves’ jersey. Ilves announced on Monday evening Hermonen’s departure.

– From Julius, we get a player who brings us skating power and strength
in penalty killing. With this acquisition, we can balance the workload
in special situations. Overall, this helps us build a more balanced
and competitive team, says Kärpät’s sports director Kimmo Kapanen in the statement.

Before his stint with Ilves, Hermonen, who has played his entire career with Kärpät, is excited about returning home.

– It feels really cool to be back here! It’s really great to get into a familiar environment to work
with familiar guys. The team has a lot of potential. The results have been a bit
off, but I believe we can turn it around. I want to bring energy and what we especially saw at the end of last season. Let’s put our hearts on the ice and give everything for that team, Hermonen assures.

Earlier on Tuesday, Kärpät terminated the contract of star forward Ben Tardif. The Canadian, who has scored ten goals this season, is moving to the Swedish SHL according to Swedish reports to join Luleå.
