It was there – The league’s cult player made a tough decision!
Juhani Jasu has decided to end his long ice hockey career. He announced this on his Instagram account.
– I was never the most talented in the traditional sense, but I think my talent was that I loved being a hockey player, Jasu says in his update.
The 38-year-old Jasu played a total of 907 regular season games in the SM-liiga between 2006 and 2025. This number is the tenth highest in the history of the league.
Last season, Jasu did not play a single game for HIFK due to injury.
– I played my entire career with very few major injuries, but in the end, my career ended due to an injury. The plan was to play for several more years, but this is how it goes sometimes. Very few get to end their careers on their own terms with that trophy lift. Although there are a few of you, Jasu shares on Instagram.
Jasu represented several clubs in the league: Lukko, HPK, Tappara, TPS, and HIFK. With Tappara, he won two Finnish championships, and with TPS, he served as captain for four seasons.
Throughout his career, Jasu recorded 215 points (99+116) in 907 games.
