Kari Jalonen‘s surprising decision to end his coaching career brings significant financial savings to Tappara.

Jalonen announced on Monday that he would leave his position as head coach of Tappara and simultaneously end his entire coaching career. The decision came as a complete surprise to the Tampere club as well.

According to Iltalehti, Jalonen’s total salary was over 350,000 euros and could have risen close to 400,000 euros.

Tappara will save a significant amount with Jalonen’s departure, but the released funds will not be used to hire a new coach.

– The saved money will not be put into a new coach. The overall situation is what matters. The funds have not been allocated in that way for coaching, Tappara’s GM Janne Vuorinen tells Iltalehti.

Tappara’s new head coach is Fredrik Norrena, with Matti Tiilikainen and Kristian Kuusela continuing to assist him. Additionally, skills coach Ville Nieminen will participate in the team’s daily activities.

According to Vuorinen, the club does not intend to supplement its coaching staff. He also denies having been in contact with Jukka Rautakorpi, who has appeared in speculations surrounding Tappara.

Tappara’s start to the season has been difficult. The defending champion is currently in 11th place in the league, and despite injuries, the club is not actively looking for new players.

– We are not currently active in the player market. We have a couple of unfortunate injuries. We will take a calm look at things, Vuorinen states.
