Belarus will not participate in the 2027 Ice Hockey World Championships. The International Ice Hockey Federation IIHF confirmed this in a statement published on Saturday statement.

The Belarusian Ice Hockey Federation had appealed the previous participation ban, but the attempt did not yield the desired result.

The IIHF’s disciplinary committee partially accepted the appeal but stated that it had no legal grounds to order the immediate reinstatement of Belarus to international tournaments.

The IIHF decided to stick to its previous stance. Belarus will also not be allowed to participate in the 2027 Under-20 World Championships.

The federation justified its decision by citing the already confirmed arrangements for the tournaments, match schedules, and ticket sales.

Belarus was last seen in the main division of the men’s World Championships in 2021. The country has been outside IIHF tournaments since 2022.

The situation of Russia still under review

The IIHF also addressed the possible return of Russia to international ice hockey in its statement.

The federation still does not accept the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) regarding Russia, but will have to take the actions required by it.

– We are investigating what conditions must be met to ensure the safety of our tournaments, protect the financial stability of the organization, and secure the long-term future of international ice hockey, the IIHF states.

The federation is also considering initiating discussions with the Russian Ice Hockey Federation and other relevant member federations.
