Rauman Lukko continues to strengthen its team. This time, the Rauma club has found a new player for its defense, as Arttu Kärki, 21, moves from Jukurit to Lukko.

Kärki’s contract is a temporary loan that ends on December 20.

A big gap opened up in Lukko’s defense when Anton Olsson got injured. The Swedish defenseman’s sick leave will last several weeks, and Lukko did not want to head into a busy match schedule with too narrow a defense.

– We know that Anton Olsson will be out for a few weeks, so we needed depth in the defense in terms of numbers as well. The match pace is increasing from here, and there will be several weeks with three games, so having eight healthy defensemen is pretty much the minimum, Lukko’s sports director Kalle Sahlstedt states in the club’s announcement.

Despite his young age, Kärki already has experience from several Liiga clubs. A product of Ilves, he has played alongside Jukurit in Tappara, Ässät, and HIFK.

This season, the defenseman has appeared in 13 Liiga games. Throughout his Liiga career, he has a record of 64 games and 19 points (4+15).

Kärki is also among the players drafted by the Vegas Golden Knights. The NHL club selected the Finnish defenseman in the third round of the 2023 draft.

– Arttu is a young and developing player and will certainly bring good competition to our defense at this point. He can play well with the puck and also create a threat in the offensive zone, Sahlstedt assesses.

Kärki is set to join Lukko’s roster on Sunday. His first opportunity to play for the new club will be on Wednesday, November 11, against KalPa.

This is already the second of Lukko’s recent player acquisitions. The club also acquired forward Rasmus Kumpulainen from the Minnesota Wild organization.
