The Lions will start their national team season on Thursday against Switzerland. The lineup for the opening match of the NOCCO Hockey Games, starting at 6:30 PM, has been published, and it is missing one of Finland’s most talked-about players of the early season.

HIFK’s star forward Daniel Mäkiaho is not included in the Lions’ playing lineup. The reason for his absence is not yet known.

The 25-year-old forward has been one of the biggest sensations of the Liiga season. Mäkiaho leads the league’s scoring chart with 25 points and received his first call-up to the men’s national team.

Finland will head into the Switzerland match with Kari Piiroinen in goal. The first line will consist of Jere Innala, Janne Kuokkanen, and Roby Järventie. On defense, captain Mikko Lehtonen will be paired with Axel Rindell.

Finland’s tournament continues on Saturday against the Czech Republic and concludes on Sunday with a match against Sweden. All matches will be broadcast live on TV5 and HBO Max.
