Historical disaster: Finland dropped to Division B in the World Championships

Finland’s under-18 girls’ ice hockey national team has been relegated to the 1st division of the World Championships for the first time in history.
The relegation was confirmed on Saturday in Canada when Hungary defeated Finland 7–5 in the relegation playoff. The Girls’ Lions lost all five of their matches in the tournament and finished last.
Finland had never before lost all its matches in a World Championship tournament. In the 2008 first age group World Championships, Finland lost all its group matches but won the placement match against Switzerland.
This marks the first time in history that Finland’s women’s or girls’ national team has lost its place in the top tier of World Championship ice hockey.
Suomi taistelee vimmatusti loppuun asti, mutta Unkari on tänään parempi lukemin 7-5 ja jatkaa näin ollen ensi vuonna pääsarjatasolla.
