Crazy claim! IL: Rikard Grönborg and Olli Jokinen earn an outrageous annual salary
Tampere’s Rikard Grönborg and HIFK’s Olli Jokinen are the two highest-paid head coaches in the league this season.
This is reported by Iltalehti, which claims that the duo’s gross salary rises to as much as 400,000 euros per season.
Jokinen’s role is broader than Grönborg’s, as “OJ” is currently also handling the position of sports director at HIFK alongside Mika Kortelainen and Ilkka Kortesluoma.
According to IL, for next season, Grönborg’s successor as head coach of Tappara, Kari Jalonen, will also rise to the same salary category as Grönborg and Jokinen.
This season is only Jokinen’s fifth as a head coach of a professional team. Previously, the former NHL player coached Jukurit for three seasons before his one-year stint in Sweden’s SHL with Timrå.
Grönborg’s list of achievements as a head coach is significantly more impressive than Jokinen’s so far. The 57-year-old Grönborg, who led Tappara to the Finnish championship in his debut season, has guided Sweden to two World Championship golds as a head coach.
