The league’s disciplinary committee has imposed a three-game suspension on JYP forward Antti Tyrväinen.

Tyrväinen received a match penalty during Wednesday’s game against Tappara for a head check. He hit Kristian Tanus hard along the boards, causing an injury that forced Tanus to leave the game.

The disciplinary committee states that in the checking situation, Tanus is a player without the puck, who should not be checked. It also notes that the force of the check primarily targets Tanus’s body rather than his head.

– The disciplinary committee states that Tyrväinen delivers a full-force body check, which also makes contact with the head of the puck-less Tanus. As a result of the check, Tanus has to leave the game. Furthermore, regarding the disciplinary consideration, the committee believes that Tyrväinen recklessly endangered his opponent with the check, and it is appropriate to impose a suspension, as stated in the disciplinary decision.

Tyrväinen was playing only his second game of the season. JYP announced a week ago that they had signed Tyrväinen for the remainder of the season.
