AL: Tappara intends to appeal Rikard Grönborg’s penalty – direct words from the CEO
The league’s disciplinary delegation imposed a fine of 10,000 euros on Tappara on Thursday and a three-match suspension on head coach Rikard Grönborg due to the events of the Tappara-JYP match played on February 18.
Tappara does not accept the ruling of the disciplinary delegation. The club intends to appeal to the Sports Legal Protection Board.
– We will appeal as quickly as we can and take all available legal actions to seek justice for the club and head coach Grönborg, says Tappara’s CEO Ari Penttilä to Aamulehti.
Grönborg is not allowed to be in areas reserved for teams, the press, or match officials during the next three matches, where special permission is required for access or presence. Grönborg is not allowed to contact his team’s players or officials during the match.
– We are very shocked and disappointed. Tappara does not accept this decision. We believe the ruling is completely unfounded, making it harsh and unreasonable in every respect, Penttilä comments.
It took eight days after the controversial match before the rulings were handed down. The slow process also irritated Penttilä.
– The process was really long and felt unreasonably lengthy. Now, having read the decision, we believe it has obviously biased elements, especially if the decision is based on hearsay or other evidence that cannot be objectively examined, Penttilä states.
