MTV: Veli-Matti Savinainen revealed a harsh diagnosis of his injury – a shocking assessment from the doctor
Gold Lion Veli-Matti Savinainen has provided additional information about his injury that required surgery, which the forward mentioned on his Instagram account on Tuesday.
The 40-year-old forward from TPS reveals to MTV Sports that it was a herniated disc in his neck.
– It was painful all summer and turned out to be a herniated disc, which required surgery and nerve release. A top neurosurgeon handled it excellently, and the guy will be back in about two months, Savinainen says.
The doctor’s comment on the severity of the injury particularly stuck with the forward.
– The doctor said with amusement that a normal person would have been in a wheelchair from that pain.
Savinainen will have to miss the first matches of the upcoming Liiga season. Based on the approximately two-month recovery time, the TPS veteran will be seen in action at the earliest after the first month of the regular season.
The six-time Finnish champion and 2019 world champion played 47 regular season games for TPS last season, recording stats of 9+17=26.
