HIFK has thrown its hat into the ring for two Liiga stars, Leevi Tukiaisen and Jere Väisänen, for next season, reports Urheilucast.

According to the podcast host Esko Seppänen, the duo has sparked strong interest within the IFK camp.

– Helsinki IFK, under GM Janne Laukkanen, has registered its interest in both gentlemen. Don’t be surprised if both of these gentlemen are found (next season) in “Edari”, unless foreign opportunities arise, Seppänen states.

However, Seppänen immediately reminds that especially for Tukainen, the most likely destination for next season will still be abroad.

– It must be understood that especially in Tukainen’s case, foreign opportunities are the most likely scenario. GM Laukkanen and (the soon-to-be head coach of HIFK) Tommi Niemelä have plenty of shared experiences with Tukainen.

– Tukainen is again in that 35-40 range, so it’s hard to see him in Liiga next season, Seppänen continues.

Of the duo, Väisänen, 26, representing Kiekko-Espoo, has played 18 games this season with stats of 9+9=18. Tukainen has scored nine goals and 10 points in 16 games with JYP.
