TPS suffered a severe setback in the away game against HIFK on Wednesday when the team’s number one goalkeeper Eetu Mäkiniemi left the match after the first period.

Head coach Toni Söderholm addressed Mäkiniemi’s situation in an interview with SuomiKiekko after the match.

– There was a little situation in front of the goal where our goalie got into a bit of a tough spot. As a precaution, we took him out, Söderholm revealed.

Immediately after the match, the head coach was unable to provide a more detailed analysis of the severity of Mäkiniemi’s injury.

– There is not much more information yet. We played it safe. We’ll take a calm look at what his situation is.

The player, who has also served as captain of HIFK, commented on the atmosphere at “Nordis”.

– I definitely enjoy it. Of course, it always brings back a lot of good memories for me, but it’s not that important how I feel about it. It’s a great place to play, a great audience, and my family can come, so what could be better.
