TPS gets a top reinforcement – the World Championship gold lion makes a comeback
TPS receives the much-needed reinforcement for the Wednesday night Liiga round. The Turku club announces that Veli-Matti Savinainen is making his return to action in tonight’s away game against Kiekko-Espoo.
This is also the first game of the season for the 40-year-old 2019 World Championship gold medalist.
Savinainen was injured in the final round of the regular season last year. The injury, which turned out to be a herniated disc in the cervical spine, required surgery in the summer and kept the forward out until the end of September.
Savinainen will play as a forward in TPS’s third line alongside Joel Määttä and Aatos Koivu.
The six-time Finnish champion, who moved from Tappara to Turku last season, played 47 games in his first season with TPS, recording 9+17=26 points.
